Jamaica's gays worship in the closet, by Micah Fink, Global Post
www.muzikspace.com - KINGSTON, Jamaica — It takes just 15 minutes to set up an underground church. Two boxes and a white sheet make up the pulpit. The altar is a card table. Folding chairs constitute the pews. Then Rev. Robert Griffin, a solidly built gay American minister in his mid-40s, unpacks a battered cardboard box; inside is a wooden chalice, two candle holders, a communion plate and a dog-eared copy of the King James Bible. Add a pianist warming up on an electric keyboard and suddenly an empty meeting room is transformed into the Kingston branch of the Sunshine Cathedral, Jamaica’s only gay church. more... ()

rack hero of Beijing Olympics Usain Bolt goes from Kingston to Big Apple in N.Y. minute
www.muzikspace.com - The fastest man in the world is a slow walker. Usain Bolt is tired, understandably, after an early-morning flight from Kingston to New York. He drags his tall bones along Broadway, past commuters and tourists who have no idea that this is one of two men who rescued the Beijing Olympics. Bolt won three golds in Beijing. Michael Phelps won eight. Both men set records, captured our imagination. Phelps won more races. Bolt won them with more flair. They have never met, although Bolt says he and Phelps will cross paths finally at a Jamaican Super Party in December. more... ()

A Caribbean carnival in St Lucia gets everyone dancing in the streets
www.dailymail.co.uk/trav... - St Lucia's carnival clogs the streets of its principal town, Castries, for the best part of 24 hours, snaking like some sinuous bejeweled serpent through its heaving streets. The colors are dizzying, the heat broiling and the din head-spinning, and we all enjoy it: that's middle-aged Iain and me, plus Amy and her friend Megan, both 17, who are courteously propositioned by posses of local boys all afternoon. more... Bolt Crushes His Own 200-Meter Record
www.muzikspace.com - After being pushed close to the finish line in the 100 on Sunday by Tyson Gay as Bolt won in a record-setting 9.58 seconds, Bolt had to do the pushing himself in the final straightaway of the 200 on Thursday. Running alone — strikingly alone — in lane 5 in the final straightaway, he showed no interest in cruising to the finish. Instead, he sprinted through, and the result was a time of 19.19 seconds: 11-hundredths of a second faster than the world record he established a year ago at the Beijing Olympics. more... ()
